My initial attraction to joining Canto was when a friend told me that one didn't have to be a good singer to join the Choir.
While I have always loved music, I have never studied it & I am not a good singer.
With some trepidation & lots of excitement, I headed to Butlerstown on the appointed Tuesday night last September.
I soon forgot about myself, as I met new people, some former colleagues & friends from our swimming group. I soon relaxed in the welcoming, enjoyable & challenging atmosphere.
I remember a cold, wet & miserable night, saying to the lady sitting next to me, how glad I was, to sit beside her & enjoy her beautiful singing.
This us a totally new direction for me & I love it.
My grandchildren, age 4 & 6, come to Timoleague on Fridays, they expect a report on that week's Choir, they love listening to our songs & have learnt "Grace" which we sing before our meal.
By Halloween I had learned that, even at 68, PRACTICE is vital !
We have learned a variety of songs, breathing exercises & some music reading.
I love that there's such a range of ages attend, we're multi generational.
The group organisation is lighthearted, inclusive, flexible & relaxed.
I'm so glad to be part of this wonderful, talented & welcoming group of singers.
The effort & preparation Denis & Carol invest in us all, is really appreciated & motivating.
You have helped me smile more than I have for quite a while.
Wishing you both a Happy Summer & many, many thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent with us.
See you in September.
